Favre: Fan Favorite
48The Old Timer
Even the fans wearing Green Bay's yellow and green couldn't help but cheer for their former QB as he went 23 of 31 for 271 yards and three touchdowns Monday night.
Brett Favre, the once Packer now Viking quarter back, didn't leave anything on the field as he led his Minnesota team to a glorious victory which was viewed by thousands of fans at the Metrodome and millions more worldwide via TV.
The game had been packaged as the "Brett Favre versus the Green Bay Packers show" for weeks leading up to the confrontation by sports writers, sports show hosts and sports fans alike. Would David beat Goliath or would the Goliath in question, wearing a cheese head, pulverize David?
Age played a roll in many discussions before the game. After all, Favre is set to turn 40 in just a few days.
Weakness of schedule was a topic of conversation in reference to how the Vikings would play the Packers. Coming into the game, the Vikings were 3-0 but 2 of the wins came at the expense of the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions...not exactly stellar teams. And the win over the San Francisco 49rs in the week prior was almost lost if it weren't for a last second touchdown.
The spread, which was a measly 3.5 points in the Vikings favor, also left folks wondering if Favre and company would play hard enough to even win.
The Packers, who came into the game with a 2-1 record (their only loss coming form the Cincinnati Bengals who have been playing good enough ball to beat the mighty Steelers), were clearly set to come into the Metrodome and upset the Viking's winning streak.
Instead, the football gods chose to smile down on their Viking warrior and bless him with accuracy, agility, receivers, running backs, offensive line and a Minnesota Defense that was hungry for sacks. DE Jared Allen had 6 tackles, 4.5 sacks and a forced fumble alone and the defense tackled Packer's QB, Aaron Rodgers, 6 times while he still had the ball in his hands.
At the end of the night, when all was said and done, the millions of fans who had the chance to catch the game were rewarded with an awesome exhibition from the veteran QB from Minnesota. Forty year old arm and all. Oh, and did I mention...not a single interception for Favre all night. Way to go...Pops.

An unnerving matchup to be sure. But the "old man" looked spry, didn't he? Good hub! MM
